Domsjö kyrka, in the Örnsköldsvik district of Västernorrland, was a gift to the community from the Mo & Domsjö company. Completed in 1966 and consecrated on the third Sunday of Advent that year by Bishop Ruben Josefson, it remains a striking example of mid-twentieth-century Swedish church architecture.

The church was designed by the architect Hakon Ahlberg. Its interior deliberately echoes the early Christian basilicas of the fourth century: a tall central nave is flanked by lower side aisles, separated by pillars that also support a long gallery running the length of the building. Light enters through a row of windows set just below the roofline, giving the space a distinctive glow rather than direct sunlight.

Above the pulpit, a cross-shaped window incorporating symbols of the four Evangelists was created by Professor Einar Forseth using cut and laminated glass. On the chancel wall hangs a tapestry by the textile artist Britta Rendahl, its design drawn from a Swedish hymn text evoking hope and the passage of time. The church silver was designed by the silversmith Martin Öhman of Lycksele.

The bells in the tower were cast by the Bergholtz foundry in Sigtuna, and the organ, with 13 stops, was built by Grönlunds Orgelbyggeri of Gammelstad. According to one source, a bridal chamber is located on the floor beneath the main church hall.

Beyond its architectural interest, the building was conceived with a particular purpose: its solid walls were intended to shut out the everyday bustle of the outside world, creating a quiet space for prayer and reflection, and inviting visitors to bring their own questions into an encounter with themes of forgiveness, faith and hope.
