The present-day Dalby kyrka was consecrated in 1928 to designs by the architect Bror Almquist, replacing a wooden church from the 18th century.

The 18th-century church had in turn replaced two older churches, probably both built of wood: one at Likenäs, erected in 1628, and one at the Stommen farmstead of medieval origin. The current church consists of a rectangular nave with a narrower, square-ended chancel, an attached sacristy on the north side of the chancel, and a west tower. The tower, including its spire, is 60 metres high and, like the rest of the church, is built of timber. Externally, the church is clad with cover-strip panelling and painted with a light oil-based paint. Inside the church, five columns painted red on each side support the nave's trefoil-shaped vaults. The organ loft also rests on columns of the same design as the others. The altarpiece was taken from the 18th-century church. The paintings on the walls and ceiling were executed by Tor Hörlin in 1928.

The church contains three medieval sculptures, including a triumphal crucifix from the 14th century, which probably comes from the oldest church. Dalby kyrka is probably the most interesting of the churches by the architect Bror Almquist, who was frequently engaged in Värmland. With the richness of colour in its interior, Almquist draws on many of the Baroque-era church buildings in Värmland.
