Bara kyrka stands on a prominent hilltop northeast of the small town of Bara in Skåne, Sweden. Built around 1200 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it has been altered and extended over the centuries, and retains an unusual medieval font with its own particular history.

The church was originally built in Romanesque style, consisting of a nave with a smaller chancel and a semicircular apse to the east, with the entrance set in the middle of the south wall. Later in the medieval period the building was vaulted, the nave lengthened and the chancel widened. The tower was completed in 1485.

Standing high on a hill, the church would have been visible from a considerable distance, a common feature of churches built in the 1100s and 1200s, which were often sited on open, elevated ground to serve as places of refuge and defence during unsettled times. Today the church has three entrances, though a visitation record from 1822 notes that it then had four doors, giving a glimpse of how the building has changed even in relatively recent centuries.

In the first half of the seventeenth century a south transept was added, built as a burial chapel for the Beck-Friis family and used as a manorial church. It still retains its original Renaissance gable. In the early nineteenth century the tower's spire was replaced with the current tiled roof; before that change, sailors are said to have used the spire as a navigational landmark. A dry-stone wall encloses the churchyard.

Among the furnishings, the altarpiece dates from the early seventeenth century and is thought to be the work of Jacob Kremberg. The church's Romanesque font has an eventful past: it spent a long period held at the Swedish History Museum before being returned to stand once again in the church.

The current organ was built in 1885 by Anders Victor Lundahl of Malmö and is a mechanical instrument, later rebuilt and enlarged by a Viken-based organ builder.
