Ås kyrka stands on high ground above Lake Storsjön, next to the village of Ås in Jämtland. Built in the 1870s to replace an earlier medieval church nearby, it remains a focal point of the Storsjöbygden district and a designated area of national heritage interest.

The present church was built between 1875 and 1877 by master builder Pehr Norin of Trönö, following designs drawn up in 1854 by the architect Edvard von Rothstein. It replaced a medieval church that had stood a few dozen metres to the southeast and was demolished in the mid-1870s; a photographer recorded the old building shortly before it was pulled down. That earlier church is thought to have been built in the thirteenth century, making it one of the first churches in the Storsjöbygden area, and its stigport, the covered gateway into the churchyard, survives today.

Inside, the walls are decorated with marbled pilaster strips, a decorative technique giving the appearance of marble panelling. The interior was altered during a restoration in 1929, when the pews were renewed and a gallery was built, beneath which a sacristy was housed.

The church organ was built in 1882 by the Örebro firm of E. A. Setterquist & Son, with twelve stops across two manuals, and was inaugurated in September that year.

The churchyard retains traditional grave plots across most of its area, with older family graves closest to the church and urn graves in the southeast corner. A newer memorial grove and an adjoining ash-grave area lie in the eastern part of the churchyard. Those buried here include a Liberal member of the Riksdag, an actor and director, and an artist.
