Arbrå kyrka stands beside Kyrksjön, part of the Ljusnan river, in Gävleborg. Probably built in the late 1400s or early 1500s, this stone church retains much of its medieval structure alongside later additions, making it a rewarding stop for visitors interested in Hälsingland's church heritage.

The church was constructed of stone with a cruciform plan, its steep gables decorated with the blind arcading typical of the period. A porch was added at the south-west portal, probably in the late medieval period, when the interior was also fitted with star vaulting. In 1635 a fire damaged the church and scorched the painted vaults, but early sixteenth-century murals in the chancel vault survived and were uncovered during restoration work in 1914.

In 1753–54 the north and south transepts were added, transforming the building's plan, and the sacristy was extended in stages shortly afterwards. The chancel was refitted according to designs by the architect Johan Fredrik Åbom in 1857. Much of the church's consistent and well-preserved furnishing dates from the later eighteenth century through to the early twentieth century, including box pews and galleries from the 1700s and a large white-and-gold pulpit that replaced an earlier seventeenth-century one, which was given to Alfta kyrka in 1793.

The font's wooden Gustavian-style stand supports a modern silver bowl, an interesting pairing of old and new. A woven chancel carpet dating from 1993 is a more recent addition to the furnishings.

Standing apart in the churchyard is a free-standing, enclosed bell tower first built in 1637, though its present form dates from a rebuilding in 1821. Its great bell was cast the same year the tower was first erected. The tower is said to be somewhat younger than many comparable bell towers elsewhere in Hälsingland, and plans in the nineteenth century to build a proper church tower were never carried out.

The church has had a succession of organs: an instrument acquired from Ljusdal in 1761 was later enlarged, sold on, and eventually replaced by new instruments in 1887 and again in 1976, the latter reusing the nineteenth-century case front. Visitors with an interest in organs may notice the mix of older casework and more modern mechanism inside.
