The chapel was built between 1936 and 1938 to designs by the architect Lars Israel Wahlman and was inaugurated in 1938. It is also known as Djursholms gravkapell.
Inside, the chapel features fresco paintings by Bo Beskow, and outside the main entrance a limestone slab carries a relief by Gunnar Torhamn.
The adjoining cemetery is the resting place of a number of notable Swedish figures, among them the nuclear physicist Hannes Alfvén, the author Harriet Löwenhielm, the children's song composer Alice Tegnér, and the artist couple Elsa and Natanael Beskow.
One editorial source notes a family connection to Swedish church architecture: Wahlman's son is said to have designed the Petrus church in Stocksund, though this detail comes from a single account and has not been independently confirmed.
