Almby kyrka is a medieval stone church in south-eastern Örebro, with origins traced to the 1100s or early 1200s. Standing on the site of what is thought to have been a pagan burial ground that became Christian, it has been extended in stages over the centuries.

Dendrochronological analysis of oak timber from the oldest roof structure suggests that the earliest core of the church was built before 1120, making it one of the district's older surviving buildings. During the 1200s the church was enlarged with a lengthened chancel and nave, and towards the end of the 1400s the chancel vault was probably removed so that the whole nave could be given the uniform brick vaulting still seen today.

A medieval sacrament niche survives in the chancel; since 1998 it has been fitted with a cupboard with wooden doors modelled on medieval precedent. The sacristy was added in the 1500s, and in 1656 a noble patron built a burial chapel against the south side of the chancel, designed as a memorial hall opening onto the chancel and lit by three large windows. A further burial chapel was added in the 1730s, funded by a mining official connected to the same estate. The porch was built and the bell tower renewed in a major restoration of 1697–98, and the church saw further alterations through the 1600s, 1700s and 1800s.

A large-scale renovation in the late 1960s is said by later experts to have shown limited regard for the church's historic and architectural character; a subsequent restoration in 1998 sought to soften some of these changes.

Among the furnishings is a pulpit of 1681 with carvings attributed to a sculptor active in the circle of a leading 17th-century Swedish statesman. An oak door with medieval ironwork, thought to date from around 1200, is preserved and now stands in the so-called small church; the anchor cross pattern from its ironwork has become the parish's emblem. Rather than a conventional altarpiece, the chancel window carries a stained-glass depiction of the Star of Bethlehem, made in 1928. The small bell in the bell tower, cast by an unknown founder in the 1200s, is reckoned among the oldest in the surrounding province.
