The chapel was built in 1935 to designs by the county architect Nils A. Blanck, on land bought for a cemetery in 1932. It was formally inspected and approved by the parish council, architect and building contractors in January 1936. Before Sankt Petri kyrka was built in 1966, the chapel was also used for regular church services in the town.
The building is constructed of brick, with a nave running north to south. The entrance and a tower, wider than the nave itself, stand at the south end, with the chancel at the north end. The walls are roughcast and painted white, and the roofs of both nave and tower are covered with red clay tiles. Beneath part of the chapel is a mortuary, reached by stairs and a lift on the north gable.
Inside, the chancel has a tapestry woven in 1987 by Lisa Fajersson, depicting nearby churches. The chapel's bell was cast in 1935 at the M & O Ohlsson bell foundry in Ystad, and the instrument now used is a digital organ. An original pulpit was removed in 1984.
The surrounding cemetery was laid out at the same time as the chapel, also to Blanck's designs. A service building beside the cemetery wall dates from 1959, with a later extension in 1978, and a memorial garden (minneslund) was added in 1980.
