Hällestads kyrka stands in the village of Torna-Hällestad, a few kilometres east of Dalby in Skåne. Dedicated to the Holy Trinity, this parish church of Dalby församling is notable for its medieval wall paintings and three runestones built into its outer wall.

The church's early history is debated. Tradition holds that a Romanesque church stood here from the 1100s, destroyed during King Karl Knutsson Bonde's campaigns in Skåne in 1452. However, more recent masonry investigations suggest the present building actually dates from the mid-1400s, with no firm proof that an earlier stone church was ever ruined at that time. What is certain is that a church with a stepped-gable, vaulted nave and probably a straight-ended chancel was built around then, in brick and Gothic style, with the tower added in the mid-1500s and later heightened.

A major rebuilding in 1859, to designs by architect Johan Erik Söderlund, saw the medieval chancel demolished and replaced with a new transept and chancel. It was during this work that three runestones, which had stood in the churchyard wall since medieval times, were set into the church's eastern exterior wall.

The church's medieval lime-wash paintings are its best-known feature. They survive in the two westernmost vaults of the nave, attributed to the workshop of the so-called Vittskövle Master, Nils Håkansson, and dated to around 1460. The eight vault surfaces depict scenes from the Passion of Christ, intended as visual teaching for a largely illiterate congregation. The paintings were plastered over after the Reformation and only rediscovered and uncovered in the early twentieth century; they were cleaned and conserved again in 2015.```

Other furnishings span several centuries: an oak altar designed by architect Henrik Sjöström around 1900, with an altarpiece made the following year by local craftsman and later curate Nils Wanngren; a font of Höör sandstone carved in 1961; and a pulpit of 1752 by Johan Ullberg, decorated with figures representing the four virtues of righteousness, faith, hope and charity. Above the pulpit hangs a canopy bearing the coat of arms of Major General Johan Wilhelm von Beckern, said to have been buried in the church in 1733.

The three runestones set into the east wall commemorate a man named Toke Gormsson, apparently a leading figure in the district, raised by his followers. Local tradition has linked him speculatively to the Danish royal line of Gorm the Old and Harald Bluetooth, suggesting Toke may have been an illegitimate half-brother of Harald — though this connection is generally regarded as legend rather than established fact. The place name Hällestad is known to predate 800 AD, confirming a settlement here since Viking times.

The present organ was built in 1974 by A. Mårtenssons Orgelfabrik of Lund, replacing an earlier instrument from 1905 by Olof Hammarberg of Gothenburg; the organ case itself dates from 1903.
