Hunge kapell: Chapel in Revsund-Sundsjö-Bodsjö parish, South-Eastern Jämtland pastorate, central district.

A couple of dozen kilometres from the church in Bodsjö, in the village of Hunge, lies Hunge chapel and school. The chapel is beautifully situated by the shore of Lake Hungesjön. It was built during the years 1912-17. The commission was given to a master builder named Karlsson from Östersund. The chapel was built according to drawings dated 1910, drawn up by a Stockholm architect whose name unfortunately cannot be made out on the drawing. The building is constructed of horizontal log timber on a hewn granite foundation and clad externally with horizontal rebated panelling. The house is built as an angled building with a chapel section with a gallery in one part and school premises in the other. There are also flats for the infant and elementary school teachers in the building. Teaching was carried on right up until the mid-1960s, after which the building stood largely unused apart from a few church activities such as occasional services, weddings, baptisms and other gatherings.

According to information available, the chapel was repainted on the outside at some point during the 1950s-60s with a plastic-based paint in a brown colour, which unfortunately over the years has almost ruined parts of the building. During the 1980s the roof was replaced after the old tiled roof had begun to leak. In the summer of 2008 a thorough restoration of the chapel was begun to save it from the rot damage that had occurred. The work has mainly involved replacing rot-damaged timber, scraping and repainting the façade and restoring, among other things, leaded windows as well as some interior painting. Following the re-inauguration of the chapel it is used extensively in the summer for both café events and music evenings and at services.
