Södra Åsums kyrka stands on the northern edge of Sjöbo in Skåne, one of three churches serving Sjöbo parish. It replaced an older medieval church nearby and remains a striking example of late nineteenth-century neo-Gothic church building in the region.

The church was designed by the architect August Lindvall and consecrated on the Feast of the Annunciation in 1902, replacing the older Södra Åsums church, which still stands some 500 metres to the north. Built in the neo-Gothic style, it is constructed of brick on a foundation of granite blocks, with substantial stone pillars each cut from a single local stone block.

An unusual architectural feature is the position of the tower, which was placed at the eastern end of the church rather than the more customary western end—most likely a decision influenced by the tower's weight and the ground conditions of the site.

Several fittings were brought from the older church, including a bell cast in the fourteenth century. The font also originally came from the old church but was returned there in 1971; the font now in use is a replica made by the local stonemason Hans Olofsson of Sjöbo. The pulpit, acquired in 1825, is older still—it was made in 1736 and originally stood in the medieval church at Skartofta, which was damaged by fire in 1705 and demolished in 1839.

The altarpiece, a triptych, was painted in 1936 by the Helsingborg artist Hugo Gehlin. The church's gallery organ dates from 1902 and was built by the Gothenburg firm Salomon Molander & Co; it is mechanical and has been noted as surviving in largely original condition, having undergone renovation work over the years.

Outside the church, to the south of the porch, stands a bronze sculpture depicting the parable of the prodigal son, created by Elsie Dahlberg-Sundberg and donated by the local women's church guild in 1977. The churchyard was extended in the late 1970s, with later additions including a memorial grove and a columbarium area known as Korslunden, laid out in 1997 with a small meditation spot by a pond.
