The church was designed with an ecumenical purpose in mind, and its premises have been made available to other congregations and community activities, reflecting its role as a shared local resource rather than a purely parish building.
The design was chosen through an architectural competition launched in 1972, in which nine architects took part. Per Rudenstam was awarded the commission, and the church was built in 1974–75, with sources differing slightly on whether the consecration took place in 1974 or 1975.
Inside, the altar decoration, known as "Levande stenar" (Living Stones), was created by Magnus Johansson of Kortebo. It remains one of the more distinctive artistic features for visitors to look out for.
The church also has a mechanical organ built in 1977 by A. Magnussons orgelbyggeri of Mölnlycke, fitted with a new case at the time of installation.
