Edsbergskyrkan: Sollentuna's beautiful timber church was inaugurated in 1972, after building development in eastern Sollentuna had begun to increase in the early 1960s.

During the 1960s, building development grew in the eastern parts of Sollentuna parish, and a temporary chapel was set up using two military barracks at Edsbergsgården. However, the need for larger parish premises increased. The architect Lars Olof Torstensson was asked to draw up plans for a church with facilities for the parish's activities. In 1972 the new church could be inaugurated.

The church itself is square and taller than the other buildings, which are all single-storey. An indoor "church hill" (kyrkbacke) connects the nave with the other spaces. The complex is built of wood, and the exterior has red-painted vertical board panelling. The roof is covered with copper sheeting and, in places, with grit-covered roofing felt. In the churchyard there is a freestanding bell tower of laminated timber and pine panelling.

The walls of the nave are clad in profiled, unpainted pine panelling, and narrow horizontal window bands divide the walls into fields. The load-bearing structure consists of visible laminated timber beams and columns. The ceiling is sky blue.

**Altar and altarpiece**

The church is furnished on the diagonal, so that the freestanding altar table is placed in the eastern corner. Above the altar table hangs an altar image that was consecrated in February 2005. In the altar image we can experience the meeting between the outer reality and the inner world. From the cross, the reassuring symbol of God, the colours of the glass relief radiate towards east, west, north and south to reach everyone with their light – God's light. In the glossy surface, the outer reality meets the inner world. Everything rests against the gold – unearthly grandeur (heaven).

Lars Olof Torstensson, the architect of Edsbergskyrkan, also designed the altarpiece. His son Jonas transferred the sketches to glass and produced it. The background is gilded with 18-carat gold leaf. The blue cross has been made from square steel bar that has been painted, and the differently coloured glass surfaces are so-called fusing glass, a recycled glass.

**Communion vessels and processional cross**

The communion vessels and processional cross were made by the silversmith Bengt Liljedahl.

A woven textile by Elisabet Hasselberg-Olsson hangs in the church. She describes her intention with it as follows: "Whoever looks at the weave should perceive it mostly emotionally, letting the eye follow the narrow, winding path towards the horizon – and towards the blue clouds of heaven".

The icon of Mary was painted by Britt-Louise Bergenwall Hjelmgren.
