Färgelanda kyrka stands on a hill above the centre of Färgelanda in Dalsland, its neoclassical design dating from the early 1870s after the medieval stone church it replaced was judged beyond repair. The building remains a prominent local landmark.

The new church came about through the determination of the rector Johan Ferlin, a strict and energetic clergyman who also helped make Färgelanda a notable centre of the austere Schartauan religious movement within the Church of Sweden. Construction was largely carried out by parishioners themselves, beginning in 1868 under master builder Anders Pettersson (recorded in some sources as A. Petersson) from Värsås/Wersås, with around sixty to seventy people involved, several dozen of them paid workers. The roof was reportedly on by November of that year, and the completed building is said to have cost around 32,000 kronor.

Although building work finished around 1870–71, formal consecration by Bishop C.H. Rundgren of Karlstad did not take place until 1873, once the organ was installed. The church consists of a rectangular nave with a straight-ended chancel, an eastern sacristy, and a west tower with porch and entrance; the tower is topped with a lantern and spire.

Inside, the spacious interior retains much of its original character, with a distinctive triumphal-arch composition featuring classicising detail, set against a Gothic-inspired ceiling and pulpit. Various renovations through the twentieth century altered and later restored elements such as panelling and the painted star ceiling in the chancel, and the exterior render has been renewed more than once, most recently in the early 2010s.

The church holds two font basins: an older one carved from soapstone in the 13th century, of a Norwegian type decorated with rope-moulding and considered unusual for Dalsland, and a later font added in 1977 in polished artificial stone with Gothic-inspired form. Sources differ slightly on their current arrangement within the church. The altarpiece, a gilded triptych depicting the Last Supper, was created in 1970 by Harry Svensson.

In the old churchyard nearby, on the site of the original medieval church, stands a freestanding burial chapel raised over the Rydingswärd family, along with the former parish's rectory and school buildings, giving the wider setting a strong sense of an historic Swedish parish centre.
