Örs kyrka belongs to a special group of medieval brick churches in Dalsland that are of particular interest in terms of architectural history.

In the medieval Diocese of Skara (the provinces of Västergötland, Värmland and Dalsland), only seven known brick churches exist, all of which were located in the easternmost part of Dalsland. Of these, only the churches in Ör and Grinstad, as well as Tösse gamla kyrka (Tösse old church), have surviving masonry, while the others are more or less obliterated.

The church is whitewashed with walls of brick and elements of natural stone. During rebuilding work in the 1660s, a brick was found inscribed with the year 1219, which is presumed to be the church's year of construction. If this date is correct, it would make it one of the country's oldest brick churches.

During the 1660s the church was extended to the east and given a three-sided chancel end typical of the period. The church lacks a tower. Just south of the church stands the bell tower. It is clad with red-painted panelling and has a saddle roof of slate. The bell tower is assumed to have been built during the 17th century.

The nave is rectangular, with the chancel in the east and the organ loft in the west. The floor consists of grey-painted wooden planks, laid in a chequered pattern in the chancel and in the aisles. The walls are whitewashed. The ceiling is white-painted, flat and made of wood, with a decoratively painted, reddish marbled cornice.

The church houses an altarpiece and pulpit in provincial Baroque style. The altarpiece was made by the sculptor Nils Falk in 1737. The pulpit, from 1762, is the work of the sculptor Isac Schullström. A third known name associated with 18th-century church furnishings in the diocese is also connected with Örs kyrka: the master painter Hans Georg SchŸffner, who painted the ceiling in 1747. Unfortunately, this ceiling painting was removed during a renovation in 1900. The church's font dates from the 13th century. The lower part of the font is of soapstone and the upper part of sandstone.

The church also owns a triumphal crucifix from the 14th century in Gothic style. It is impressively large, unusual, and its origin is unclear.
