Tuna kyrka: Tuna church is beautifully situated by Lake Marmen
The Medieval Church
In the old settlement on the shore of Lake Marmen, the first parish church of stone was built during the mid-1200s. It has now completely disappeared, but remnants of its walls are incorporated into the southern wall and eastern gable of today's church.
Today's Church
The medieval church eventually became too small, and drawings for a new church were made in 1772 by the church builder Daniel Hagman. Construction, however, was delayed until 1776-1777, when his son Pehr Hagmansson carried out the plans. The interior bears the mark of his father's style, but the exterior lacks the broken roofline typical of Hagman's work (cf. Attmar church). Here it has instead been replaced by a simple hipped saddle roof. The church was planned with a tower, though it was not built until 1937. The church has undergone several restorations, including one in 1928 when it received its present harmonious interior.
The bell tower next to the church was erected in 1746 by the parish clerk (klockare) Alexander Thun. The church bell is still used during outdoor services.
The water feature with a pond was created in the churchyard in 2015 and is a popular place for recreation.
