In 1946, provost Olle Arbman consecrated the forest cemetery (skogskyrkogård) in Fors. This cemetery had come about on the proposal of vicar (kyrkoherde) Sundström and forest master August Granström. County gardener Erik Zetterström planned the area, which covers approximately 11 hectares.
The stone wall around the cemetery was laid by Olof Löfgren, Jonas Eriksson, Fredrik Jonsson and Erik Holmkvist in the same year as the consecration.
The chapel was built in 1963 and bears the clear imprint of vicar C.L. Sundström's admiration for ancient Greece. We may marvel that the people of Fors allowed this enthusiasm to shape a Parthenon for a Christian burial ground. Architect Kjell Wretling designed both the chapel and the bell tower.
The consecration took place on 13 September 1964 and was conducted by Bishop Ruben Josefsson.
The bell was cast by Bergholtz bell foundry in Sigtuna and weighs 400 kg, bearing the inscription:
In the year 1964 the Forest Chapel was erected. C.L. Sundström was then vicar of Fors and provost of Ragunda deanery. Blessed is he who folds his hands into God's hands…
The organ from Hagströms in Härnösand was added in 1967, and the glass cross with crown of thorns was designed by the artist Berndt Helleberg, Åkersberga.
