Bjärtrå kyrka, in Strinne in Västernorrland, was built between 1844 and 1847 to replace a medieval church that had grown too small for the parish. Consecrated on 5 September 1847 by rural dean Jonas Nordberg, it stands as the parish church of Bjärtrå.

The present church was constructed by master builder Lars David Geting, partly following earlier 1833 designs by the architect Samuel Enander. It replaced a stone church of medieval origin that once stood about a kilometre to the north; that older building was demolished, though its ruin was uncovered and conserved in 1931–1933 and can still be visited today, known as the Nässom church ruin, complete with a surviving covered gateway (stiglucka).

Stones from the old church were reused as building material for the new one, a tangible link between the two structures. The two bells now hanging in Bjärtrå church also came from the earlier building; the larger and older of the pair is dated 1506 and is said to be among the oldest in the diocese, bearing a Latin inscription dedicating the work to the Virgin Mary.

Inside, the pulpit was carved by the church joiner Nils Gerdin in 1842. Gilding and decorative painting followed in the spring of 1846, the work of master painter Olof Hofrén of Söderhamn, who also painted the altarpiece between 1846 and 1848.

The building has since seen several restorations, notably in 1907, 1926, 1944–45 and 1990–91. The 1907 restoration, overseen by architect Albert Thurdin following a proposal by Agi Lindegren, involved breaking through the east wall to convert the former sacristy into a chancel, with a new sacristy built to the north of it.
