Hässelby Villastads kyrka, on the edge of Stockholm, was consecrated on Michaelmas Day, 1 October 1939, by Archbishop Erling Eidem. Built in a modern brick style, it remains a distinctive local landmark, notable for its open bell tower and light, airy character.

The church was designed by architect Folke Hjortzberg and built in brick, with construction beginning in March 1939. At the time, Stockholm still belonged to the Diocese of Uppsala; it now lies within the Diocese of Stockholm. The long, north-south oriented nave has its chancel to the north and entrance to the south, where an open brick bell arch rises, holding two bells mounted one above the other rather than enclosed in a conventional tower.

Approaching from Riddersviksvägen, visitors are drawn to this striking bell arch, topped with a simple iron cross on a saddle roof. The building rests on a granite-clad concrete base, with rendered brick walls and slate roofs over the nave and chancel. The overall effect, by design, is light and youthful rather than solemn or imposing, echoed in the inscription said to appear on the smaller of the two bells, cast in 1939 by D G Bergholtz & Co in Stockholm.

Inside, the wooden ceiling is grey-painted, with a barrel-vaulted central section. The chancel wall carries a secco painting by Olle Hjortzberg, father of the church's architect, depicting Christ preaching to people dressed in clothing from different historical periods. The pulpit, made of elm to the architect's own design, incorporates painted panels also by Olle Hjortzberg and is positioned above a door leading to the sacristy.

Among the furnishings, the font at the front of the church is carved from red English sandstone, paired with a silver font ewer made in 1956. On the altar, built of rendered brick with a limestone top, stands a silver crucifix created in 1939 by the sculptor Carl Eldh. A sacristy adjoining the chancel was extended with an additional preparation room in 1965. The church's organ, with 16 stops, was built in 1962 by Olof Hammarberg of Gothenburg.
