Spelviks kyrka is a small medieval stone church in Rönö parish, Strängnäs diocese, standing in the Spelvik countryside near Nyköping in Södermanland. Though modest in scale, it preserves a striking span of history in its fittings and long, eventful past.

The stone church was built during the 15th century, with a rectangular nave and an eastern chancel. A sacristy north of the chancel and a porch with the main entrance on the south-west side of the nave were both added later in the same century. Since then, the structure itself has changed very little. Intriguingly, a Romanesque font carved from sandstone in the 1100s survives, suggesting an earlier church once stood on the site before this one was raised.

The church's fortunes took an unusual turn in the 19th century: from 1846 it stood abandoned and unused for nearly a century. Remarkably, its roof remained intact throughout this long period of neglect, protecting the building from the worst effects of weather until it was reconsecrated by the Bishop of Strängnäs in 1933. For much of this time the exterior walls stood bare of render, which was only reinstated during a restoration in the 1990s.

Among the church's most notable furnishings is a triumphal crucifix dating from the second half of the 15th century, contemporary with the building itself. The brick altar dates from 1736, while the altarpiece is older still, from 1667. The pulpit, made around 1625, is counted among the oldest surviving in the whole of Södermanland province, a detail worth pausing over for anyone interested in early church woodwork.

The sandstone font, decorated with ring-plait ornament and a rope moulding, is the oldest object in the church and a rare physical link to whatever earlier building may have occupied this spot in the 1100s.
