Municipality
Lidköpings Kommun
Denomination
Church of Sweden
Associated diocese
Diocese of Skara

Just outside Vinninga stands Sävare kyrka, one of twelve hexagonal 'central churches' designed by court architect Emil Viktor Langlet. Built on the site of an earlier medieval church, it remains a striking example of nineteenth-century Swedish church design.

The present church was consecrated in 1883 or 1884 (sources differ on the exact year), replacing an older sandstone church that had stood on the same spot since medieval times. That earlier building had a rectangular nave, a narrower chancel to the east, and a tower to the west.

Langlet's design was one of four central churches within Skara diocese. Its hexagonal plan, topped with a central tower, was intended to bring the congregation physically closer to the priest, reflecting a more egalitarian approach to worship. The exterior is built of red brick with contrasting yellow roughcast render, while inside, pews and galleries are arranged in a half-circle facing the chancel beneath a star-vaulted ceiling supported on sturdy corner pillars. Much of the original interior fittings survive.

In front of the church stands a combined lychgate and bell tower, designed by Axel Forssén and erected in 1928. It houses two bells cast at the M & O Ohlsson foundry in Ystad.

Among the church's older treasures are the remnants of a medieval font attributed to the stonemason Othelric, now kept at the Västergötland Museum; a copy stands in the church's baptismal chapel today. The organ facade on the south gallery dates from 1898, the work of Carl Axel Härnman, while the mechanical organ mechanism behind it was renewed in 1983, incorporating some older material.
