Nykyrka kyrka is a wooden church on the western edge of Mullsjö, built in 1887 to replace the parish's original 1656 church, which had fallen into disrepair. The design came about through the involvement of the Sager family at Ryfors ironworks.

The present church was built in 1886–87 by master builder Anders Pettersson of Värsås, to designs by architect Ernst Jacobsson. It was consecrated in October 1887, after the parish had hesitated for several years before the Sager family helped bring them into contact with Jacobsson, whose recently completed Älvros new church served as a model.

The building stands on a granite foundation and is built in a so-called Old Norse (fornnordisk) style, with a broad nave, an offset, braced west tower, and a lower three-sided chancel to the east. The exterior is clad in shingles and smooth panelling, painted in a dark oil colour, while the rounded windows are grouped in threes and glazed with small, partly coloured panes set in a diagonal pattern. Inside, the woodwork was left unpainted, oiled, and has darkened naturally over time.

Several furnishings survive from the earlier 1656 church, including a carved angel figure that once held candles, and an hourglass, said to have been used to time sermons. The old altarpiece and pulpit, made in the early 1700s by Jonas Ullberg of Velinga, are kept in the tower room rather than displayed in the main church. The font, along with numerous candlesticks and candelabra, was made by smiths at the nearby Ryfors ironworks, reflecting the strong historical link between the parish and the works. The present altarpiece dates from 2000, the work of Erland Forsberg.

The churchyard contains the notable Sager family burial plot, along with a number of decorative wrought-iron grave crosses commemorating smiths who worked at Ryfors. A newer cemetery lies across the road, on the other side of Nykyrkevägen.

The church has two organs: a west gallery instrument built in 1972 by Smedmans Orgelbyggeri, with a sounding facade designed by Lars Stalin, and a smaller one in the chancel, originally built in 1982 for the parish hall and later moved into the church.
