Nynäshamns kyrka stands high above the harbour in the coastal town of Nynäshamn, about 50 kilometres south of Stockholm. Consecrated in 1930, it serves as the parish church of Nynäshamns församling within the Diocese of Strängnäs and remains a striking landmark for those arriving by sea.

The church was built in 1930 to a design by the architect Lars Israel Wahlman, who was also responsible for Engelbrektskyrkan in Stockholm and several other churches. Wahlman chose the site himself: a high rocky outcrop above the harbour where a sea mark had previously stood, guiding sailors into Nynäshamn. The church was conceived to take over that role, acting almost as a beacon visible from both land and water.

The building is constructed of brick, rendered and finished in red plaster, with a tower set to one side on the south face that houses the sacristy. This asymmetrical arrangement gives the exterior a distinctive silhouette compared with more conventional parish churches of the period.

A substantial restoration in 1954 renewed much of the interior, introducing a new pulpit, font and altar. At the same time a rebuilt gallery received the church's first pipe organ, built by A. Mårtenssons Orgelfabrik of Lund; the instrument was later enlarged ahead of the church's 80th anniversary in 2010. Sources differ slightly on some details of the building's later alterations, including work attributed to the architect Arne Philip on the facade, so visitors interested in the finer building history may find small discrepancies between accounts.

An earlier harmonium served the church before the organ was installed, a reminder of the more modest musical provision typical of many Swedish parish churches before mid-century investment in pipe organs became widespread.
