Södra Lundby kyrka is a parish church between Larv and Vedum in Vara kommun, Västra Götaland. Its origins are medieval: a timber stave church once stood here before being replaced, probably in the 1200s, by the stone building visitors see the outline of today.

The church is thought to be one of the oldest in the Vara district, built as a medieval nave in granite, fieldstone and dressed sandstone. Two worn stone slabs from the 1600s or 1700s flank the porch window, remnants of earlier furnishings or memorials whose exact history is unrecorded.

The building was altered substantially in the late eighteenth century: between 1782 and 1785 the chancel end and south wall were rebuilt, giving the church its current three-sided chancel, and a sacristy was added. A late-medieval timber porch was demolished and replaced, and roughly a century later, in 1886, this timber porch was itself replaced by the stone porch that stands today.

The old door is made of heavy oak planks clad with riveted iron bands, and its ring handle is shaped as two stylised animal heads biting against each other. One of the iron bands has a hole that, according to local tradition, may be a bullet mark from Danish raids, though this cannot be verified.

The church has no tower; instead a freestanding wooden bell frame, built in 1740 with an onion-shaped, metal-clad cap, houses two bells. One source dates the smaller bell to 1582, bought in 1823 from Broddetorp, while the larger bell's age is unknown but was recast in 1789 in Skara. The churchyard retains an unusually rounded, apparently original layout for the area, with graves spaced irregularly; the oldest surviving headstone dates from the nineteenth century, and a newer cemetery was laid out about a kilometre to the west in the early twentieth century.

Inside, the font is a twelfth or thirteenth-century 'lily-stone' font, and the oak pulpit bears the date 1663. The altarpiece dates from 1715, and the organ was built in 1955. Nearby archaeological remains include Iron Age stone settings and burial mounds, and local tradition associates a nearby hillock and a stone-lined spring with pre-Christian spring bonfires and processions, later used for open-air preaching in Christian times.
