About us

We’re Ronald and Mary, the couple behind Churches in Sweden. Ronald is Dutch, Mary is Filipina, and in 2026 we made Härnösand our home.

This website brings together our curiosity about Sweden, its history and its architecture. Churches are a wonderful place to begin: from small wooden buildings in the countryside to grand cathedrals, each has its own character and a story to tell.

As newcomers, we often found it difficult to discover those stories in English. That inspired us to create this guide together. We visit churches, take photographs and gather information to help other curious visitors explore them too. Sometimes we can step inside; sometimes our visit is simply a walk around the building, appreciating its architecture and surroundings.

Our vision is to build a useful, personal English-language guide to Sweden’s churches, combining their history with photographs, maps and practical visiting information. We’re starting close to home and adding to it gradually, one church at a time.
