Västra Ryds kyrka is a parish church at Rydsnäs in Ydre, within the Diocese of Linköping. Built in the early 1880s to replace an older medieval church nearby, it remains the church of the Västra Ryd parish congregation.

The present building was constructed in 1881–1882 by master builder Anders Pettersson of Värsås, following designs by the architect Albert Törnqvist. It replaced a medieval church that had stood a short distance to the west, alongside a bell tower dating from 1687.

The church is built of stone, with a rectangular nave, a five-sided sacristy to the east and a tower to the west topped by a lantern and spire. Its rubble-stone walls are rendered white, and the nave has a sheet-metal-clad saddle roof. Several fittings from the original 1880s interior survive, including the open pews, pulpit, altarpiece surround and organ gallery.

In 1925 the artist Gösta Sundvall added wall paintings depicting biblical figures to the west wall of the nave. A substantial restoration in 1958 addressed both the exterior and interior of the building, and older furnishings from the previous medieval church were arranged beneath the gallery, where some can still be seen.

Among the church's furnishings is a pulpit contemporary with the building, and an altarpiece believed to be a copy of the altarpiece at Vimmerby, painted by Alfred Thörne and depicting the Transfiguration of Christ. The font was bought from Vadstena and bears the date 1683. Three bells hang in the tower, the smallest reputedly dating from medieval times.

Relics of the earlier church are displayed within the present building: a pulpit made in 1691 by the local craftsman Gustav Kilman stands near the south portal, and an altar ornament from the old church—variously dated to either 1662 or 1722—is mounted on the south wall.

The church's main organ was supplied in 1882 by the Malmö firm of Anders Victor Lundahl, an early example of a tube-pneumatic instrument in Sweden; it was rebuilt as a mechanical organ in 1963 by Nordfors & Co. A smaller mechanical chancel organ, with divided registers, was added in 1979 by Robert Gustavsson Orgelbyggeri of Härnösand.
