On the road down to Mollösund stands this attractive wooden church, its bright interior painted in pale ochre-yellow tones. Mollösunds kyrka replaced an earlier church and has served the community since the mid-1860s, retaining several fittings inherited from its predecessor.

An earlier wooden church stood on the old churchyard site, probably built during the intensive herring-fishing years of the mid-16th century. By the 19th century this building was too small for the growing population and needed repair, so a new church was built on higher, more visible ground within the settlement. Sources differ on the architect: one names the town architect H. J. Strömberg, while Wikipedia attributes the design to Frans Jacob Heilborn. The land was reportedly given free of charge by a local benefactor, Olsson of Konungsholmen, who was granted a pew for life in return.

The present church, built in a Neo-Gothic style, was consecrated in 1866. Its long nave has a straight-ended chancel to the east with an attached sacristy, and the west entrance is topped by a broad ridge turret; the exterior is said to be largely unchanged since construction. Internal restoration in 1911 introduced new pews and fresh wall and ceiling panelling, and a mortuary room was created in the tower's ground floor in 1970. A further interior renovation in 1998 brought a new colour scheme and created a parish hall with a small kitchen area in the lower part of the church.

Several furnishings were carried over from the old church, including two altarpiece paintings depicting the birth of Christ with the three wise men and the crucifixion, flanked by further scenes of Golgotha and the institution of the Lord's Supper. The font is also said to originate from the old church, with decorative paintings on its sides uncovered during a later renovation. The pulpit dates from the time of the new church's construction, though its canopy was retained from the earlier building.

One notable feature is the gallery balustrade, decorated with paintings from 1781 showing biblical figures from the Old and New Testaments. These were sold when the old church was demolished, to help finance the new building, before being donated back to the parish in 1935 and reinstalled on the balustrade. The church bell is said to have been donated in 1926 by a churchwarden, bearing an inscribed hymn verse.

The church organ, built in the mid-1950s by Hammarbergs orgelbyggeri, has fourteen stops; Wikipedia notes an earlier organ dated 1871 and records a substantial renovation of the current instrument in the early 2000s.
