Attmar's present church was built in the years 1760-62 to designs by church builder Daniel Hagman and was consecrated on 30 January 1763 by Bishop Olof Kiörning, who himself came from Attmar.
Previously a stone church from the 1100s stood on the site. When the old church was demolished, the east and north walls were left standing. They are now part of the north-east corner of the present church.
We do not know how old the bell tower is. At the end of the 1680s it was in such a condition that it had to be repaired. In 1811 it was rebuilt and then took on its present appearance.
The churchyard was extended in 1987, at which time the memorial grove was also added, beautifully situated by the lake Marmen.
The old parish cottage, located by the church, was repaired in 1991 and now serves as the caretaker's office.
The two runestones outside the church show that Christianity came early to Attmar. The runic text on the large stone reads in modern Swedish: "Håkon had this stone raised in memory of Skygne, his brother, and in memory of Althrud, his mother. May God and God's mother help their souls."
