Rönnängs kyrka stands among bare rocks at Tjörnehuvud, Tjörn's southernmost point. In 1794 Rönnäng was granted the King's permission to build a church, on a site formerly known as the marketplace 'Rönnängs torg', from which the building's old nickname 'torgs kyrka' derives. The white timber church was completed the following year.

Built in 1795 in a restrained Gustavian style, the church is a single-nave building with tower to the west, and its chancel and nave share the same height and width beneath a common saddle roof, hipped over the chancel. It belongs to a group of churches raised along the Bohuslän coast in the late eighteenth century, a period of prosperity linked to the great herring fisheries. The sacristy to the south, larger than its predecessor on the same site, was rebuilt in 1974.

The altarpiece, showing the Crucifixion above and the Last Supper below, is said to predate the church itself and is attributed to Christian von Schönfeldt, a painter active in the first half of the eighteenth century. The pulpit and gallery balustrade were decorated in 1795 with paintings of the four evangelists and, on the balustrade, Jesus with the twelve disciples, all executed directly on site during construction.

The granite font dates from 1916, carved by Anton Olsson of Tanum from grey Bohus stone. Hanging in the centre aisle is a votive ship, said to have been donated in 1795 to mark the church's first infant baptism; such ship models were traditionally given by sailors or fishermen grateful for having survived peril at sea.

The organ, built in 1985 by Olof Hammarberg, stands behind a sounding façade dating from 1911 and retains some material from that earlier instrument; it is recorded as the church's third organ. Among the newer furnishings are a processional cross made locally in 2002 and an icon added in 2022, reflecting continuing additions to the church's furnishings in recent decades.
