Carl Gustafs kyrka is the parish church of Karlshamn in Blekinge, named after King Karl X Gustav, the town's founder. Construction began in the 1680s and the church was consecrated in 1702, replacing an earlier wooden church of 1664.

The church was designed by Erik Dahlbergh, a notable figure in Swedish architecture, and built of granite and brick. Its tower was raised in 1695, though it later proved too weak to bear the ringing of two bells, prompting the construction of a separate stone bell tower in 1761, built with bricks donated by the town's burghers.

A semicircular sacristy was added behind the choir in 1834, and at the same time a new altarpiece, depicting the entombment of Christ and painted by Fredric Westin, was installed. In the 1870s the church underwent a substantial restoration under Helgo Zettervall, during which the ornate baroque decoration of the organ loft was removed; fragments of this are said to survive in the Karlshamn museum.

Despite these changes, several older furnishings remain. The large brass chandeliers dating from the early 1700s still hang in the church, and the richly decorated brass font from the same period survives too. According to one source, the font itself was a gift of 1717, while its brass basin is dated to soon after 1519 and bears the arms of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, making it, by that account, the church's oldest surviving object. The west door retains a large wrought-iron lock said to date from around 1700.

The church has had several organs over its history, beginning with an instrument of 1702 by Johan Niclas Cahman, later replaced and rebuilt more than once. The current organ, installed in 1973, incorporates the façade of an 1881 instrument by Åkerman & Lund, giving the case a visibly older appearance than the mechanism behind it.

Numerous small gifts from local citizens accumulated over the eighteenth century, including silver vessels, chandeliers, and church gates funded by a donation of coin from two local brothers in 1718 — a reminder of how closely the building's fabric was bound up with the town's merchant community.
