Hallstaviks kyrka stands amid trees beside the main road in Hallstavik, part of Häverö-Edebo parish in Uppsala diocese. Built for the growing paper-mill community of Hallsta, it is a striking example of 1930s brick church architecture designed by a leading Swedish architect.

The church was built to serve the community that grew up around the Hallsta paper mill during the 1920s, when the settlement lacked a place of worship. It was designed by the architect Ivar Tengbom and constructed by Aktiebolaget Armerad Betong, with the foundation stone laid in September 1932. The church was consecrated on 23 September 1933 by Archbishop Erling Eidem.

The building follows a traditional medieval model in red brick laid in monk bond, with a rectangular nave, a porch to the south and a sacristy attached to the east. Cross-shaped blind arcading decorates the exterior walls, and steep copper-clad roofs cover all sections. Inside, the single nave is covered by a wooden barrel vault, and the vault, gallery front and pulpit carry decorative paintings by the artist Gunnar Torhamn, who also carved the triumphal crucifix and painted the altarpiece depicting Christ and the apostles.

A freestanding bell tower stands on a rocky knoll opposite the church entrance, built as a copy of the Gunilla bell tower in Uppsala. Its bell was cast using worn machine parts from the Hallsta paper mill. Unusually, the church has no churchyard; the only grave associated with the site, that of the mill director Fredrik Grewin and his wife, who initiated the church's construction, was cut into the rock beneath the bell tower before being moved to Häverö churchyard in 2008.

Several notable fittings survive from the church's construction, including a font carved by the stonemason Isak Davoust to the architect's designs, and a stained-glass window by Hugo Gehlin showing the Virgin and Child with the paper mill visible in the background. Silver communion vessels were made to designs by Arnold Karlström, while candlesticks, a bridal crown and other silver items follow designs by Jacob Ängman.

The church's original organ, built in 1942 by H. Lindegren of Gothenburg, was later moved to the Fjellstedt School in Uppsala. The current organ, built in 1957 by Grönlunds Orgelbyggeri, was brought here in 1967 from Hofors church.
