Häggums kyrka stands in the village of Häggum, on the southern slope of Billingen near Skövde, in what is now Skultorps församling within the Diocese of Skara. The present church dates from 1864, replacing a medieval predecessor on the same site.

The earlier church was thought to have stood on this spot since the twelfth century. It was demolished in 1864, and the new building was raised the same year by master builder Anders Pettersson of Värsås, working from designs by the architect Per Ulrik Stenhammar in a neoclassical style. The church has a rectangular nave, a straight-ended chancel to the east, and a west tower with a medieval-inspired saddle roof; a narrower, lower sacristy adjoins the chancel.

The tower holds two bells: a larger medieval one, cast around 1460 and bearing a brief, incomplete inscription, and a smaller bell cast in Skara in 1757.

Several older furnishings survive from the previous church, including a Romanesque font from the 1200s decorated with vine ornament, and a rustic Baroque pulpit dated 1761. The altarpiece, depicting Christ on the cross with Mary and John, was painted in 1872 by Anders Gustaf Ljungström (also recorded as O. Ljungström) and given to the church that year by the then vicar, Anders Johansson. The porch preserves two carved gravestones, commemorating a hatmaker who died in 1762 and a local yeoman farmer.

Among the furnishings are four chandeliers, two of which are notably old: a brass example from the 1600s and a crystal, Empire-style chandelier from the 1700s. The church has an organ on the west gallery, built in 1925, along with a smaller floor-standing organ acquired in 1986.

In early 2022 the church underwent partial interior and exterior restoration, during which the old natural stone foundation was uncovered.
