Österunda kyrka is a medieval parish church in Uppsala län, believed to have been built in the late 1200s or early 1300s. It is best known for its remarkable medieval wall paintings, including a rare series depicting the legend of St Henry.

The church consists of a rectangular nave with a straight-ended chancel, a sacristy to the north and a porch to the south. Built mainly of natural stone and finished in whitewash, it has saddleback roofs, with the sacristy covered by a lean-to roof. The sacristy may have been added slightly after the original building.

The nave and chancel originally had tall wooden barrel vaults, replaced towards the end of the 15th century by three brick star vaults. The porch is thought to date from a few decades earlier. The most significant exterior changes came in the 18th century: windows were enlarged in the 1750s, and the current roof and a new west portal date from repair work in 1781, when the gables were also lowered from their earlier steeper form.

A thorough restoration in 1961–1962, led by architect C. O. Deurell, reshaped the western end beneath the gallery, introduced a new floor and pews, and uncovered blind arcading on the porch. The same restoration revealed, as far as possible, the medieval wall paintings, attributed to Albertus Pictor, which survive in two layers, an older and a younger. Although the whole church was once decorated, only fragments remain today, among them the unusual sequence illustrating the legend of St Henry.

Among the furnishings, the limestone font dates from the mid-13th century, its bowl original though the foot was remade in 1964. The pulpit, from 1755, was a private gift to the church from Johan Daniel Kusell and his wife Anna Christina Hermodia of Mjölkebo estate; its carved and gilded relief depicts the Transfiguration. A medieval sacrament cabinet remains in the sacristy.

The church has had several organs: one built in 1815 by Anders Svanström of Strängnäs, followed by a mechanical organ built in 1844 by Pehr Gullbergson of Lillkyrka, whose façade survives from that year; the instrument was renovated in 1962.

Outside the churchyard wall, to the north-west, stands a free-standing bell tower erected in 1765 by master builder Strandberg of Sala, and nearby is a former bell-ringer's cottage dating from the first half of the 19th century.
