Lunedskyrkan is Karlskoga parish's summer church and one of the country's few canal churches. Unstaffed but open 9-21, June-August. Emergency number for the caretaker: 0586-684 20. Road 237 towards Filipstad, 13 km from Karlskoga.

The name Lunedet comes from the fact that people used to "lunna", that is, drag, timber and boats across the isthmus, the spit of land between the lakes Lonnen and Alkvettern. Lunedskyrkan stands on historic ground.

The old oak by the lock at Lunedet is also called the Kungseken (the King's Oak), as it is said that this was where the dukes Karl and Johan conspired against their brother, King Erik XIV, in the 1500s. Duke Karl, who later became King Karl IX, was the one who subsequently gave Karlskoga its name.

Lunedskyrkan is what is known as a "vandringskyrka" (itinerant church), meaning that it could be dismantled and moved relatively easily. It was originally built in 1969 at Skogsrundan within Karlskoga, but when a larger and more functional church was needed there in the 1980s, other uses were sought for the small white wooden church. In consultation with the municipality, it was decided that the church would be moved to the Lunedet recreational area just northwest of the town.

On 3 June 1985, the inauguration took place, conducted by the then bishop Sven Ingebrand. From the very beginning, Lunedskyrkan has had an ecumenical character, and priests and pastors from most of the Christian congregations in the town took part in the inauguration. Lunedskyrkan is a highly appreciated church for weddings and baptisms. Here there are also full summer services every Sunday evening during the summer, and gatherings, among others, for residents of Karlskoga's service homes during the week.

Many say that the church has Sweden's most beautiful altarpiece, and one understands this as soon as one steps inside the church. The entire wall behind the altar is made of glass, and it feels as though one is standing in the meadow outside, with the beautiful view down towards the Bergslagskanal. Here cows and calves graze peacefully, and often come up to look in through the windows when something is happening in the church. The church is open 1 June - 31 August.
