Annelövs kyrka stands amid farmland and scattered housing on the site of an old parish centre in Skåne. Parts of the building date back to around 1200, and the church is notable for its lead-covered apse roof and a rare surviving medieval font with its original lid.

The church was built of granite around 1200, in the Romanesque tradition, with a nave, chancel and eastern apse; the west tower followed in the 1300s or 1400s. A Christian grave found beneath the walls hints that a timber church may once have stood on the same spot, suggesting long continuity of use. The apse's conical roof is covered in lead, a feature shared with only a handful of other churches in the country, most of them in Skåne. Fragments of medieval roof timbers survive in the tower, nave and chancel, of interest for the building's construction history.

Inside the tower, a vault with rounded ribs springing from the walls is thought to date from the tower's original construction and is considered particularly valuable; it contrasts with later rebuilt vaults elsewhere in the church that use square ribs. A large transept was added to the north side in the 1820s, in a broad, flat-roofed Neoclassical round-arch style that sits somewhat awkwardly against the more compact medieval structure. Building of the transept prompted the altar to be moved from the chancel to the south wall, along with the acquisition of an altarpiece depicting the Last Supper from another church and the construction of an organ gallery.

A renovation in 1966–68, overseen by Torsten Leon-Nilsson, reshaped the interior with new floors, pews and vaulting, and aimed to recover something of the church's medieval character by removing later nineteenth-century alterations. During this work the altar was returned to its original position in the apse, and a medieval rune stone, the Annelöv stone, was discovered built into the south wall. During the same period, in 1970, the apse was fitted with strongly coloured stained glass by the local artist Bertil Sandegård, combining an abstract modern style with medieval references.

Among the church's furnishings, the painted wooden font, probably dating from the 1500s and later reworked in the 1700s, is unusual for retaining its original lid, a feature rarely preserved elsewhere. The pulpit, from the late 1500s, is decorated with painted figures — described in one source as the apostles and in another as the four evangelists — set within fluted pilasters; its original painted decoration was uncovered during the 1968 restoration. Considered one of the oldest pulpits in Skåne, its restrained decoration is typical of early Renaissance joinery from the end of the Reformation period, and it shows stylistic kinship with pulpits in nearby churches such as Dalköpinge, Lackalänga, Lockarp and Farstorp.

The church's current organ was built in 1926 by A. Mårtenssons Orgelfabrik of Lund, replacing an 1885 instrument by Anders Victor Lundahl of Malmö, itself a successor to an earlier reed organ.
