The church of outdoor life! Lida idrottskyrka (Lida sports church) sits on a wooded slope above the lake Getaren, within the Lida outdoor recreation area in Botkyrka. Built for open-air worshippers, it remains a favoured spot for baptisms and weddings rather than regular Sunday services.

The site began with a bell tower, raised in 1947 to call people to open-air services and designed by Ralph Erskine, who also planned the wider Lida recreation area. Ten years later, in 1957, a proper church building was added alongside it on the slope down to the lake. Constructed largely by volunteers in just six months, it was designed by architect Ebbe Lidemark and consecrated that November by Bishop Helge Ljungberg.

The building is made of concrete and brown tarred timber, with a steeply pitched roof that sweeps almost to the ground. Inside, the floor descends in stages towards the chancel, where the wall behind the altar is a large glass window: rather than a painted altarpiece, the surrounding forest and the waters of Getaren form the view.

Fittings are simple and made largely of wood. A freestanding wooden altar bears a silver cross on a timber base. To its right stands a square wooden pulpit decorated with a metal relief, of unknown authorship, depicting Christ instituting the Last Supper. To the left of the altar is the font, a cross-shaped wooden stand supporting a brass plate that holds a glass baptismal bowl.

A mechanical organ was built for the church in 1957 by the Danish firm I. Starup & Søn of Copenhagen; a digital organ has since been installed alongside it. The original bell tower was replaced in 2006 with a new one, again designed by Ebbe Lidemark, closely modelled on Erskine's earlier structure.

The church underwent a substantial renovation in the mid-1990s. Today it belongs entirely to Botkyrka parish, having originally been run in cooperation with a committee representing outdoor worshippers, and it continues to open for events within the surrounding recreation area, which also includes an inn.
