Ljusets kyrka ('The Church of Light') is Sweden's youngest parish church of note, completed in 2004 near Hallunda centrum in Botkyrka, close to Stockholm. Its striking modern design and neighbouring Syriac Orthodox church make it a memorable stop for visitors interested in contemporary religious architecture.

Construction began in February 2004 and the church was inaugurated that Advent by Caroline Krook, then bishop of Stockholm. It replaced two earlier parish churches at Norsborg and Alby, both closed the same day, though the concrete bell tower standing beside Ljusets kyrka was originally built for the earlier Norsborg church.

The building's architects, Thomas Bernerstedt and Kjell Rosenborg of FRS Arkitektkontor, gave it an octagonal plan with timber walls clad in rough-sawn boarding painted in traditional Falu red. The walls lean outward at a fifteen-degree angle, a shape said to recall both a ship's hull, evoking Noah's Ark, and the unfurling petals of a flower opening towards the light. Inside, this outward lean is felt as an unusual sense of openness and expansion, with daylight admitted through roof windows and reflected down across the sloping surfaces.

On the roof sits a Greek cross with a stainless-steel sphere representing the globe. Among the church's furnishings, the altarpiece is a large panel of water- and sand-cut stainless steel, created by artist Par B Sundberg, while the altar and font are made of birch and oxidised brass. Two chandeliers formed from neon tubes hang from the ceiling, an unusual detail for a church interior.

The building's design has attracted architectural attention: it was nominated for the Rödfärgspriset (Falu Red Paint Prize) in 2006 and received a building award from the Stockholm County Heritage Federation in 2005. Its neighbour, the Syriac Orthodox Church of St Peter and St Paul, adds to the site's interest as a place where different Christian traditions sit side by side.
