Örtofta kyrka stands in Väggarp, in the parish of Eslöv within the diocese of Lund. The present building dates from 1862, replacing an earlier medieval church on the same site, and remains part of the Church of Sweden.

The church visible today was designed by the architect Abraham Pettersson and consecrated on 30 November 1862. It replaced a Romanesque church thought to have been built sometime in the 1100s or 1200s, of which a tower and porch had later been added during the later medieval period. Construction of the new building was funded by Count Johan Henrik Dücker the younger, of nearby Örtofta manor, who held the role of patron of the church; a plaque above the main entrance records his sponsorship.

When the new, larger nave with its polygonal eastern apse was built, the earlier nave, chancel and porch were demolished. Only the lower part of the sturdy medieval tower was retained. This section was built or rebuilt in 1639, a date still visible set into the tower wall alongside the initials BL-HR-MS, referring to Henrik Ramel, then owner of Örtofta manor, and his two wives, Brita Lunge and Margareta Skeel.

Among the church's furnishings, the sandstone font is the oldest surviving object, carved in the 1100s by the stonemason Mårten; its brass basin dates from the 1600s. The altarpiece, painted in 1927 by Anders Valdur, is a copy of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper. Two bells hang in the tower, one cast in 1949 and the smaller one in 1802.

The church has had two organs. The first, built in 1863 by Jöns Lundahl and Knud Olsen with ten stops, was also funded by Count Dücker and inaugurated on All Saints' Day that year. It was replaced in 1936 by a pneumatic organ built by A. Mårtenssons Orgelfabrik of Lund, which remains in the church.

A restoration in 1953, led by cathedral architect Eiler Græbe, followed damage from wood-boring beetles to the tower and roof timbers; the roofs were relaid, the barrel vault of the nave simplified and insulated, and the tower's corner spires removed, with its roof covering changed from slate to copper. The exterior render was repaired again in 1966.
