Södra Sallerups kyrka, in the village of Södra Sallerup in eastern Malmö, is thought to be the city's oldest church, with origins reaching back to the 1100s. Despite the encroaching suburbs, it retains the feel of a rural parish church.

The oldest surviving parts of the building are the nave, built in the second half of the 12th century, and the tower, added in the 1200s, whose vaulted ceiling still carries an original medieval vault with 13th-century limewash painting. Towards the end of the Middle Ages the chancel was extended eastwards, and a sacristy and a brick porch were added.

The church has been altered repeatedly over the centuries. In 1833–34 the southern porch was demolished and a new porch created inside the base of the tower, with a new main entrance cut into its west side. The most significant change came in 1864, when the architect Carl Georg Brunius — already known for prestigious restoration work at Lund Cathedral and St Petri Church in Malmö, and said to have had a strong interest in Romanesque 12th-century architecture — extended the church further east, giving it a three-sided chancel end and adding new transepts and vaults in place of the demolished medieval ones.

Much of the interior seen today dates from a further restoration in 1931, when the sacristy was moved from the chancel into the north transept. Notable furnishings include an octagonal oak font, thought to date from the first half of the 1600s, and an altarpiece attributed to the painter P. Clausen from 1864; a later altar arrangement by Hugo Gehlin was added in 1931. The porch, the first room visitors pass through, is said to be the oldest room in Malmö still in regular use.

The present organ, built in 1967 and housed in the north transept gallery, retains its façade from an earlier 1881 instrument, a reminder of the church's long history of adaptation and renewal.
