Liberiet stands just south of Lund Cathedral, a red-brick building erected in the late fifteenth century as the cathedral chapter's library. Today it serves as a centre for spiritual reflection and pilgrimage within the Diocese of Lund.

The building's name derives from the Latin 'liber', meaning book, recalling its original purpose as the chapter's library. Since then, Liberiet has been put to a number of different uses over the centuries, though detailed records of these intermediate phases are not given in the sources consulted.

Since 2008 the building has functioned as a pilgrimage centre, offering a place for quiet conversation, coffee, rest and stillness, alongside pilgrim literature and information about the pilgrim routes crossing the diocese. It forms part of the wider complex around Lund Cathedral, alongside the Cathedral Forum and Cathedral Museum, and acts as a hub for pilgrim routes passing through the area.

The centre offers meetings, conversation, meditation, prayer and spiritual guidance, and functions as a training venue and information point for pilgrims. It is reportedly open for pilgrim prayer at various times, with pilgrimage evenings and walks said to be arranged regularly; prayers are sometimes also held in the cathedral crypt or in the Cathedral Forum visitor centre, though current scheduling should be checked separately.

The work at Liberiet is run by Lund Cathedral parish on behalf of the Diocese of Lund, together with a voluntary association and in cooperation with the nearby Klosterkyrkan, volunteers and various networks. Each year the centre reportedly adopts a particular theme; in 2020 this was said to be spiritual health, reflected in an emphasis on energy-efficient lighting, ecological products and recycling within the building.

The building occupies two floors of roughly 100 square metres each, and is said to include a lift, an accessible toilet with shower, resting places for pilgrims and a small kitchen area for warming food, though such facilities are subject to change and are not guaranteed for visitors today.
