Övre Soppero kapell was completed in January 1927 and was in use until 1958, when it was repaired for the first time.
Vicar Kuno Åberg consecrated the chapel that same year, following this renovation.
The present bell tower was consecrated in 1961 by rural dean Gottfrid Nordlund from Gällivare.
The bell was cast by Bergholtz bell foundry in Sigtuna and was donated to the chapel by Oscar and Rosa Andersson, Tuolluvaara.
In 1972 a major interior restoration was carried out, along with reinforcement of the bell tower.
In 1977 the chapel received a new sheet-metal roof, donated by MoDo.
In 1981–1982 the church porch was extended to include space for toilets and a smaller room.
In 1987 the floor was taken up for additional insulation, and the exterior of the chapel was painted.
