Västermo kyrka is a medieval parish church near Stora Sundby, in Västra Rekarne församling within the Diocese of Strängnäs. Its oldest parts date back to the 1100s, and the building has been altered and extended over several centuries.

The church's origins lie in the 12th century, with the chancel likely widened to match the nave's width in the 1300s. A porch was probably added in the 1400s, along with vaulting - though without proper supporting piers, meaning the walls had to be thickened in places to bear the weight. In the early 1660s the chancel was extended further east, gaining its present three-sided end, while the medieval tower was demolished in 1687 and the church lengthened westward. Various flat wooden ceilings were later replaced with barrel vaults around 1797-1800.

The windows and openings were reworked over time: light openings in the chancel's angled walls were sealed in 1793, existing windows enlarged, and the previously windowless north side received its first window in 1776 and its last in 1803. A heating chamber was added on the south side in 1911, the same renovation that saw stepped gables added to the church - these lacked official permission and were later removed in 1956. The south porch was converted into a waiting room in 1983.

Inside, the pulpit dates from 1630 and originally came from Öja church, installed here in 1911. Above the altar hangs a painting of Christ on the cross attributed to Theodor Rombouts, dated 1626, which is thought to be the same painting mounted against the chancel's east wall in 1687; it was taken down in 1803 but fortunately preserved. A fragment of a 13th-century font survives in the chancel, while the font in current use dates from the early 1600s.

Among the church silver is a chalice and paten of medieval origin, later adorned around 1700 with the coats of arms of Magnus Fleming and his wife Wendela Stålarm, whose family's nearby estate owned roughly half the farms in Västermo parish and played a significant role in the church's history. A wafer box donated by their daughter and her husband, Count Knut Posse, is also among the silver items.

The church bears three bells of differing age and character: a late-medieval mid-sized bell without inscription, a large bell donated in 1912, and a smaller bell from 1683 carrying a lengthy dedicatory inscription. The present organ was built in 1941 by Olof Hammarberg of Gothenburg, incorporating the façade and some pipework from an earlier 1878 instrument by E A Setterquist & Son.
