Östervallskogs kyrka, close to the Norwegian border in Värmland, is a wooden church inaugurated in 1985. It combines nave and parish premises under one roof, and stands on a site that has held at least two, and probably more, earlier churches.

The present building, designed by architect Janne Feldt, has a rectangular nave with a plain east end and a west tower, its exterior clad in white-painted board panelling beneath a dark tiled roof. Although built in the 1980s, the nave's proportions were deliberately shaped to echo a traditional church form rather than following a strikingly modern design.

The church that stood here previously burned to the ground on 24 October 1983. Most of its furnishings were lost in the fire, though a few pieces survived, including an eighteenth-century communion chalice, wafer box and wafer iron. A sandstone font dating from the thirteenth century also survived, though it was badly damaged by the fire; a new font of lacquered pine, with a brass bowl, was later made for the rebuilt church.

Many of the furnishings in the present church were provided after the fire, some donated by parishioners. These include chandeliers made by Jerry Eriksson and an altarpiece by the local artist Åke Nilsson. Sources note that the church has a good organ; records indicate the current instrument was built in 1988 by Mårtenssons orgelfabrik of Lund, replacing an earlier organ destroyed in the 1983 fire.

The building's history stretches back further than its current wooden structure suggests. A church, possibly medieval, is thought to have stood on an earlier site to the south, at Stommen, until the mid-nineteenth century. A large timber church was then built in the 1860s about five kilometres to the north, to designs by the architect Johan Hawerman (sometimes recorded as Johan Adolf Hawerman); it was this building that was destroyed by fire in 1983, leading to the construction of today's church two years later.
