Lidens kyrka is a striking and richly decorated church in Sundsvall municipality, Västernorrland. Rebuilt on a grand scale in the mid-19th century, it remains a landmark for its parish and a memorable stop for anyone exploring the Indal valley's church heritage.

The present church replaced a medieval predecessor that had become too small for a growing and, thanks to forestry, fishing and hunting, relatively prosperous parish. Local tradition holds a fond legend that the building plans were mixed up with those intended for a town church, often said to be Sollefteå, resulting in a structure unusually large for a rural congregation. There is no evidence to support this story, but it reflects how imposing the church still feels within its setting.

Construction took place between 1856 and 1858 under master builder Johan Nordell, following designs by architect Johan Erik Söderlund. Sources differ slightly on the consecration date: parish material gives 1858, while other records state the church was consecrated on 25 August 1861 by Bishop Israel Bergman. The building combines a rubble-stone and brick structure, with a nave, a narrower five-sided chancel to the east, and a tower to the west, topped by a tall white spire visible across the surrounding countryside.

Inside, the chancel is the most eye-catching feature, with marbled and gilded pillars, illusionistic painting, and a large gilded cross above the altar, which is said to date from the time of the church's construction and is adorned with a shroud cloth and crown of thorns. Galleries occupy the north-eastern and south-eastern corners of the nave, with the sacristy and an anteroom tucked beneath them.

The pulpit is thought to be contemporary with the church itself, its basket decorated with gilded emblems and topped by an unusually high-set sounding board. Near the south-east gallery wall stands a font with carved reliefs, added in the 1940s by Per and Tor Carlsson, offering a later artistic layer within this otherwise mid-19th-century interior.
