Töftedals kyrka stands low beside the Töftedalsån river, in the narrow farmed valley that forms the heart of the parish, an area recognised as being of national interest for cultural heritage. The site is medieval, and the present building probably replaced an earlier wooden church.

The wooden church seen today dates from 1748–49, with a west tower added in 1793 and a north sacristy following in 1915. It is one of Dalsland's small timber churches, and its wide nave paired with a comparatively short tower gives it a distinctive silhouette among the region's rural churches. A modest cluster of buildings survives nearby, including church stables, former schoolhouses, and a parish hall, reflecting the site's earlier role as a local centre.

The church was originally painted red, but by the late 19th century it had been repainted white, and its windows were enlarged at the same time to bring more light into the interior. The plain, restrained character of the church seen today owes much to a 1950 renovation carried out to plans by the architect Axel Forssén, which introduced new pews and two altarpieces painted by Gunnar Erik Ström, depicting the Adoration of the Magi and the Ascension.

Among the older fittings, the pulpit stands out: it is said, though not verified here, to be the oldest in the province, dating from the 16th century. The font is carved from soapstone and dated to the 13th century; it was restored in 1950, when a worn middle section was replaced and the older stone surfaces smoothed.

The smaller of the church's two bells is thought to date from the early 13th century, comparable to one at Nössemark church, and bears no inscription. The organ, built in 1921 by the Hammarberg workshop in Gothenburg and later adjusted in 1980, is noted as one of the best-preserved instruments of its kind still found in the Diocese of Karlstad.
