Numerous pilgrims passed through Ljungdalen during the Middle Ages on their journey towards Trondheim.
The chapel, erected in 1956, is built of wood. Its design is reminiscent of a kåta. The façades are covered with timber panelling and the roof is clad in sheet metal. The interior is also of wood, as the chapel is entirely lined internally with timber panelling. The pulpit, altar and altar rail are likewise made of wood.
Beside the chapel stands a bell tower, also of wood. It was completed for the burial ground in 1954, that is, two years before the chapel was finished.
