The church was built in 1941 to designs by architect Paul Boberg. Interestingly, it was originally intended to serve as a parish hall rather than a church, but the finished building was instead consecrated as a church on the second Sunday of Advent 1941, by Bishop Yngve Brilioth. A renovation took place in 1981.
One of the more distinctive features inside is the al secco painting in the chancel, created by the artist Torsten Hjelm. Painted in 1941, it depicts the Great Commission of Christ, and was reworked by the same artist to reach its final form in 1981.
The furnishings reflect this mid-twentieth-century character alongside later additions. The present altar, made of soap-treated pine to a design by furniture architect Nils-Göran Gustafsson of Skillingaryd, was consecrated in 1992. The oak font, carved by sculptor Erik Sand of Strängnäs, was consecrated in 1942, together with a silver baptismal bowl forged the same year by silversmith Oskar Arnold Karlström. A votive ship by Konrad Walther, given to the church in 1981, hangs above the entrance to the sacristy.
The church has had more than one organ. A pneumatic gallery organ built in 1950 by the John Grönvall organ workshop of Lilla Edet was later taken out of use, and a chancel organ of 18 stops across two manuals, built by Västbo Orgelbyggeri, was inaugurated in 1991.
