Hagelbergs kyrka stands in unusual isolation on the Skövde Garrison's military training ground near Tåstorp, roughly a kilometre from Klagstorp. This small stone church, once at the heart of a rural parish, now offers a curious peace amid an active tank exercise area.

The oldest parts of the church are believed to date from early in the medieval period, making it one of the older stone buildings in the area. In 1730 it was extended eastward to reach its present size, giving the building its current layout of a nave with a three-sided chancel. The main entrance sits at the western end, where part of the church interior is divided off to form a porch, and a small sacristy stands beside the pulpit.

A free-standing wooden bell tower stands to the south of the church. It is thought to date from the 1700s, though it may have earlier, possibly medieval, origins. Both bells hang from the 18th century, with one dated 1774.

The altarpiece is the church's most distinctive feature: a large triptych, likely dating from around 1650, that may have arrived as war booty during Sweden's era as a great power. Its side doors can be closed, and on their reverse are painted large-scale figures of Martin Luther and the Apostle Paul. This is said to be the only altarpiece in Sweden depicting Luther, making it a notable curiosity for visitors interested in church history and iconography.

Other furnishings include a pulpit from the late 1600s, a choir pew probably from the 18th century, and a carved wooden font, also from the 1700s, with a font bowl added in 1924. A small organ by Smedmans Orgelbyggeri, with six stops on a single manual, was installed in 1987.

The church is no longer used for regular church services and seats around 75 people. Its unusual setting, surrounded by military training land rather than a village or town, makes it one of the more unexpected church visits in the region.
