Oxie kyrka lies south-east of Malmö and is thought to be the city's oldest church, with origins in the later 12th century. Across the road stands the parish house, home to many of the church's activities today.

A wooden church may have stood on the site as early as the 1000s, though no trace of it survives. The stone church built here in the 1100s was a simple Romanesque structure with a nave twice as long as it was wide, and a men's entrance on the south side. That original doorway survives and can still be seen from inside the present-day sacristy: a sandstone and limestone portal carved by the so-called Oxie Master, an anonymous medieval sculptor named after this very church.

Only the north and south walls of the nave date from the 1100s. The vaulted ceilings were added during the medieval period, and a stepped-gable tower was later built onto the church. In 1848 the architect Carl Georg Brunius carried out extensive alterations, adding vaults and transepts and lowering the floor by half a metre. A further thorough interior restoration followed in 1899–1900 under architect Alfred Arwidius, giving the church its Neo-Gothic furnishings, including an altarpiece dated 1899.

The font, also attributed to the Oxie Master, is roughly as old as the church itself and is carved from sandstone with figures of lions and bunches of grapes. A brass christening bowl dates from the 1500s, while the brass christening jug was designed by the Malmö silversmith W. Crona and given to the church by the Sunday school in 1961.

The church has had several organs over the years. A 10-stop instrument built by Sven Fogelberg of Lund in 1855 was later sold on, and a 15-stop organ followed in 1899. The current mechanical organ, with a newly built façade, dates from 1958 and was constructed by A. Mårtenssons Orgelfabrik of Lund.
