Stora Sköndals kyrka stands on a rocky rise above Lake Drevviken, within the grounds of the Stora Sköndal Foundation in southern Stockholm. Consecrated in 1929, it was designed by architect Hakon Ahlberg and remains a distinctive example of twentieth-century Swedish church building rooted in older rural traditions.

The church was built between 1927 and 1929 for the Swedish Deaconess Institution, which commissioned Hakon Ahlberg to design a single-nave building with the chancel to the east and the main entrance to the south. Its whitewashed walls and steep, tarred timber-shingle roof recall traditional Swedish country churches, an impression reinforced by a roof profile resembling that of an old manor house. The freestanding bell tower echoes this vernacular style, with falu-red panelled walls above its base and a shingle-covered cap topped by a weathercock.

Inside, the ceiling follows a clover-leaf form and is lined with falu-red panelling, while the walls are plastered and painted white and the floor laid with lacquered brick tiles. The deep, round-arched window recesses hold small-paned grey-painted windows with clear glass, giving the interior a plain, restrained character in keeping with the exterior.

Several notable furnishings survive from the church's early years and later additions. A large crucifix hanging in the chancel arch was carved in 1939 in Oberammergau, southern Germany. The original granite font, with a hammered brass basin, was designed by Hakon Ahlberg himself, and the altarpiece is the work of Gunnar Torhamn. Four original painted wooden chandeliers with exposed bulbs still light the nave.

The church's organ was rebuilt in 1961 by Grönlunds Orgelbyggeri, replacing an earlier instrument installed in 1944, with a case designed by architect Jörgen Fååk; the interior itself was somewhat altered during renovations in 1961 and again in 2006.

The church grounds include a small chapel, a modest churchyard and a memorial grove, set within a park of old oaks and other broadleaved trees, through which a lakeside path runs along the reed beds and shore meadows of Drevviken. The building has received a 'blue rating' from the Stockholm City Museum, denoting cultural-historical value comparable to that required for statutory listed buildings.
